Margo McDonnell assumed leadership of 1031 CORP. in 1994 and has been a driving force in the 1031 exchange industry for over 30 years. A Certified Exchange Specialist® (CES®), Margo has facilitated thousands of real and personal property exchanges nationwide, including delayed, reverse, and improvement exchanges of varying sizes and complexities. Her deep expertise, commitment to client education, and reputation for integrity have made her a sought-after speaker and author on tax-deferred exchange topics. She frequently presents seminars and continuing education programs for investors, business owners, and advisors.
A dedicated advocate for the 1031 exchange industry, Margo played a pivotal role in establishing the CES® designation and national certification standards. She served as the founding chair of the CES® Certification Council of the Federation of Exchange Accommodators (FEA), where she also held a seat on the Board of Directors for nearly two decades and served as the organization’s president. She remains an active member of the FEA Government Affairs Committee. Her leadership and service have been recognized with multiple honors, including the inaugural FEA President’s Award in 2003 and the CES® Council’s “Margo McDonnell Certified Exchange Specialist® Perpetual Award for Outstanding Service” in 2008.
Beyond the 1031 exchange world, Margo has long been involved in the regional real estate community. She has served as the affiliate director for both the Tri-County Suburban REALTORS® and the Suburban West REALTORS® Association and is a current member of their Commercial Chapter Advisory Council. In 2016, she was invited to join The Counselors of Real Estate, a prestigious organization of real estate advisors recognized for their integrity and expertise.
Margo holds an MBA from Villanova University and continues to lead 1031 CORP. with a focus on client service, education, and advocacy.
